Doula-ing: emotional support before, during and beyond childbirth

Women supporting women through labour is an ageless tradition common to all cultures.  Traditionally, labouring women were surrounded by family members and experienced women from the community.  As childbirth became the domain of the medical profession and women moved into hospitals for birth, women lost their vital connection to one another during this time of intense physical, emotional and spiritual work.

But birth is still sacred, and babies need to be welcome with love and respect.  So, doulas (or birth companions) are experts in providing the kind of support before, during and beyond childbirth to help facilitate a positive birth experience and postpartum transition.

More than a decade ago, my own amazing birth experiences sparked my passion for birth and changed the course of my life.  Thus, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to be part of the birth miracle.

As a doula, I am someone who understands, trusts and respects the process of birth. Given the right conditions, I believe childbirth is a normal, healthy and empowering process.  I offer specialized support for parents in a variety of settings including homebirth, birth centres and hospitals.  My goal is to make the birthing family comfortable, informed and supported and the labouring mother feel confident in her natural ability to give birth.

In addition and as part of my continuous volunteering work, I currently support mothers+babies as an accredited La Leche League GB leader (www.laleche.org.uk) through our national helpline and at monthly group meetings.

Last but not least, I am fully insured plus, perfectly trilingual so I can doula-you in English, Spanish or French.
